Experience: Excellent for everyone, if you want to learn and gain more clinical experience, if you are interested there will be a lot of chances to prove yourself, if you want to spend your time studying you’ll have a LOT of time.
Working hours 9-12 approximately Except: Monday: 2-3 PM there will be a lecture with monitored attendance. Tuesday: half day for the residents so the consultant might ask you to stay for closing rounds (4-5PM)
1 or 2 oncalls per months and it’s not 24hrs
Advantages: Understanding consultants and seniors
Disadvantages: Difficult cases mostly bed bound patients with non favorable prognosis
Tips: Avoid being late and leaving without permission, no need for that
Experience: A strong learning experience that substantially improved history taking, physical examination and communication with patients and nurses. Interns present each case to the senior resident and may independently assess around five patients per shift, depending on workload.
Advantages: The teams were helpful, and residents made time to teach when asked even during busy shifts. The schedule included 17 shifts, leaving several days off.
Disadvantages: Interns are expected to complete histories, examinations, consultations and orders. Shifts usually last the full eight hours, leaving little time to study, and some patients can be challenging. Punctuality is enforced, so arrive early enough to find parking.
Tips: Practise history and examination skills, ask for feedback on your notes, and request a break when needed.
Experience: The workload varies between acute and critical care.
Critical care: When there are no assigned patients there may be time to study. Interns can take histories from families, examine non-urgent cases, assist with primary surveys and reassess patients.
Acute care: Patient load and independence vary widely by team, from a few patients to more than 10 in a shift. Some shifts allow interns to manage cases, arrange consultations and review investigations. On others, routine coordination work leaves less time for learning.
Advantages: Strong exposure to history taking, physical examination, ultrasound and communication with patients and the wider healthcare team.
Disadvantages: Teaching and autonomy vary by shift. Interns may be assigned routine coordination tasks or asked to arrange consultations for patients they have not personally assessed. Shift work can leave little time to study and disrupt sleep.
Tips: Be proactive and ask to take part in clinical work.
Experience: Hectic but I learned alot during my rotation
Advantages: Respectful and cooperative environment , being involved with the team
Disadvantages: Long hours of work , hectic and overcrowded and too much work , some patients are difficult
Tips: Work as hard as you can if you are interested, otherwise do what you’re obligated to do, and most importantly is to ask about anything you’re uncertain of especially when it’s about your patient, your senior has to know everything! Being in ER and handling every patient means that you’re a part of the team , so act like one
Experience: It depends on your senior resident, which changes every month. We wrote notes and did some consults, and it was enjoyable.
Advantages: Finishing no later than 1pm and overall very light rotation
Disadvantages: You have to sign attendance every day before 9 am
Experience: It was very nice
Advantages: Very nice and respectful doctors. Each week will be attached with a resident and they will ask you if you are interested or not sometimes if you are not interested they will not let you attend (to help you have time to study SMLE) and if you don’t like OR you can tell them and they will put you in clinics so overall the doctors are very considerate. There were no oncalls and the working hours are short and there was plenty of time to study. No sign in/ out.
Tips: You can easily catch their attention if you are interested you can tell the residents and they will help you. In my case, I wasn’t interested so I did not care that much.
Experience: It was good overall. The residents were smart and active, and they weren’t really expecting that much from an intern, especially if you are not interested. They were friendly and helpful. I had very light working hours, starting from 9 AM until 12-1 PM on average. They were really cooperative overall.
Advantages: Residents !! Especially the juniors consultants as well
Disadvantages: Complex cases to be honest
Tips: Please Show good attitude even if you are not interested!! This will really help you get better treatment from the residents!!
Experience: Light team, neutral experience (not bad), basic IM experience.
Advantages: - Very light workload; rounds start at 9 and finish at 10-11, and you can go home afterward. - The senior may ask you to write notes sometimes, but not if you’re not interested. - The juniors I was with were very helpful and didn’t ask for help at all.
Disadvantages: - You HAVE to sign attendance every day before 9 AM. - You have to give notice of leave to the senior or she will call you. - Very boring if you’re not interested ☺️..🌹 مع احترامي
Tips: The chief resident told us to have good attitude In general and show interest to the team and be involved more. Not interested so I don’t know..
