Experience: 1. benign environment 2. very high load, HPB surgery is super busy, lots of patients are referred to KFMC for this specialty, specifically 3. 3 oncalls (start from 7:30am till 12 pm next day ;) ) 4. one weekend round (3 h maximum for each day) 5. morning round start between 6 - 7:30 am depending on the load at that day 6. you're responsible for writing notes "progress, admission, ex.." everyday, taking consent, Booking an appointment "OPD or radio" .... 7. scrubbing in is not mandatory, but you need at least to scrub in half the rotation 8. they don't care if you are not interested, you have to do your job, even on-calls
Advantages: 1. benign environment, رائعين جدا اخلاق فوق الطبيعي 2. interesting onco cases 3. sometimes you will do a consultation on your own, this taught me hospital manners and consultation protocols 4. mistakes are acceptable, and sometimes welcomed 5. they love interns 6. kfmc locations is super nice كل شي حولك مب زي الحرس، مو مهم بس يعني, لكن سيء وقت رجعة المدارس لان الطرق بتكون زحمه 7. they will ask you if you want to scrub in in EVERY Procedure, which is good if you are interested 8. case presentation in the morning round is easy and direct, they don't want details
Disadvantages: 1. working hours is crazy 2. 6 am rounds is common 3. cant leave before 4:30 pm 4. lots of work sometimes i cant even sit for an hour to study ;( 5. they don't care if you have exams, you cant leave early 6. they dont care if you are not interested, you still have to work 7. Weekend round! it could start early in the morning or 10/11 am, depending on the senior, never exceed 3 hours “for males: u can pray jummah in the hospital’ mosque” 7. parking is 2 riyal per hour, if you want free parking you need to park outside the hospital area, a 5-10 min walk depending on your location
Tips: 1. never leave without telling your junior 2. be social, they love interns who interact with them 3. on on-calls, ask the junior if you can leave early, they may lit you leave at least before 12 am
Experience: On Red Team, rounds were short, usually about an hour from 8:30. Depending on the senior resident, interns might need to stay for a noon or 2 PM recap, and consultant availability varied during the rotation. Interns may review 1–3 patients before rounds and present them if interested.
Advantages: Plenty of time to study, no sign-in or sign-out, and no on-calls. Consultants asked teaching questions without making the environment uncomfortable, and residents were generally supportive unless the service became very busy.
Tips: Tell the team if you are interested and volunteer to present in front of the consultant.

Experience: Great overall, with a lot of routine work and limited learning in surgical management or practical skills.
Advantages: Three days a week. Work starts very early, around 6:30 when surgeries begin.
Disadvantages: Interns may be asked to obtain surgical consent before the patient has been assessed, which made the respondent uncomfortable because they could not confidently explain complications. The schedule leaves little time to study.
Tips: The breast service may have a lighter workload than colorectal and minimally invasive surgery.
